Modifying your loan (changing terms to better suit your needs) is becoming increasing popular as lenders realize the true costs of foreclosing and settlements are reached with large lenders to force modification.

There are several possible outcomes:

    * The lender reduces your interest rate either temporarily or permanently.
    * The lender adds delinquent payments onto the back end of your loan giving you a window where you can skip a payments.
    * The lender makes a short term fixed rate a long term fixed rate loan.
    * The lender reduces your principle balance lowering your total obligation.
    * The lender refuses to assist you.

Credit collectors are harassing us! Our son presumingly owes a debt, he doesn't live with us. The other night we were away from home and my young son was with a sitter when someone rang the doorbell. They were told not to answer door to unknown visitors. The collector preceeded to bang on the door hard, and constantly ringing the doorbell. They also shined a huge spotlight on our house. This went on for 30-40 min. We returned shortly after they left to a traumatized son. We called the police because at this time we still didn't know who they were. The officer informed us they were no where around anymore. Last night we were home and they returned. This woman came to the door ringing and pounding, my husband opened the door and he asked what she wanted and she asked for our son. My husband informed her he did'nt live here and mentioned the incident from the previous encounter. She persisted. We shut the door, she screamed, banged, ringed and then went to all our nieghbors!
